3 Killed In Burbank Murder-Suicide Identified

(CBS) BURBANK, Calif. Two men and a woman who were fatally shot in a double-murder suicide that apparently began with a tenant-manager dispute at a Burbank apartment complex were identified Friday.
Rafael Shirinian, 49, committed suicide after killing Vahik Farhadian, 48, and Manyam Masihi, a 49-year-old woman, said Craig Harvey of the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.
Farhadian managed the apartment building, and Shirinian and Masihi were tenants, police said.
Police were sent to 612 E. Cypress Ave. about 5:35 p.m. Thursday on a shots-fired report, said Lt. Armen Dermenjian of the Burbank Police Department.
Officers found Farhadian with a gunshot wound near the entrance of the complex, said Sgt. Matthew Ferguson of the Burbank Police Department. Officers administered first aid, but he died a short time later.
Ferguson said that according to "the preliminary investigation it does appear that the shooter, Rafael Shirinian, had an ongoing problem with several neighbors in the two-story, about 20-unit apartment complex. There had been verbal altercations between Rafael and several other residents of different apartments."
No weapons or physical violence had been observed in the past, although there had been squabbles over parking spots, Ferguson said.
It was unclear if this was the basis of the problem or if Shirinian "just didn't like them," he saTd.
Ferguson said the shooting was preceded by a verbal altercation. When Vahik Farhadian returned to the apartment with his son Oshin, Rafael shot him several times.
Oshin "ran for his life" and ran through Manyam Masihi's first-floor apartment whose front door was open.
Oshin escaped through a rear window of the apartment, accompanied by Masihi's two adult children who were in the apartment, he said.
Shirinian then killed the woman in her doorway and went upstairs to his second-floor apartment.
Ferguson said as officers arrived at his door, shots rang out. Shirinian had killed himself and a revolver was found next to his body.
Ferguson said Shirinian had reloaded the weapon at least once and possibly twice.
It was not clear, he said, whether the woman was targeted or just unlucky. However, indications were that the shooter did not like her, he said.
Shirinian also had two children in his apartment who were not harmed.
A large cache of weapons were found in Rafael's apartment, along with uniforms, Ferguson said.
"It is believed from the uniforms he was a security guard at one time if not currently a security guard. It is reasonable to assume he was," Ferguson said.
Farhadian's son Oshin, who was 20, was wounded, but was hospitalized and expected to survive.

ReplyDeleteVahik is no innocent victim. He got what he deserves for being a CREEP and sexual predator!!!
DeleteIt is not my intention to disrespect anyone and especially a departed person.I knew Vahik and his wife and son quite well. He was no decent or religious person as I remembered. He was a predator, sexual predator, a CREEP! My girlfriend live in girlfriend then would always say how he would look at her in a very dirty and sexual ways and at times giving her kissing gestures. We had a strong feeling of vahik entering our apartment unit when we're not home taking my gf underwear. I never caught him but I once confronted him after witnessing him aggressively followed my girlfriend down to the basement parking garage. He had done this many times before even after being asked nicely at first by my gf to please stop following her and engaging her at either basement parking garage or laundry room when I'm not around. Initially my gf tried didn't want to say anything to me because I could've done the worst to him then but his continued sexual aggression towards her left her no other choice but to inform me. Vahik, didn't know that I was home that day and as my gf exited our unit to go to her car in basement garage just as my girl suspected vahik was hauling ass out of his apartment unit and followed her downstairs while putting on a shirt. I was shocked! I preceeded back in our bedroom to retrieve a gun (I witnessed the event from my living room window through a partially opened blinds) and as I opened the front door here comes my panicked gf running up the stairs with vahik right behind her. As soon as he saw me those predatory look he had in his eyes turned into a please don't kill me innocent look as I grabbed him by his shirt and I slapped his face and dragged his ass inside their unit cause I thought his very nice wife was home to make her aware of the situation but she wasn't home. That sexual predator was on his knees begging me not to hurt him. It could've been me instead of that poor Rafael that's been vilified that did what he had coming to him regardless. He is no innocent and undeserving victim. I warned him right up in his face that next time around a bullet instead of fist would be hitting his face if he don't stop and change his ways. Cause based on what I've witnessed that day n my gf statement it was an ongoing predatory behavior of him. This happened in 2005. Shortly after the incident my gf and I left the apartment as we left on our deployment for the Airforce overseas. I happened to bump into one of my neighbor from back then who knew about the incident and asked me if I knew that vahik was murdered by a neighbor. My thoughts were if the accused murderer had a wife or girlfriend then I'd say that it would be the reason why the accused snapped!???
